Rekindle the Gift

Our goal this year is to focus our efforts as a parish in a rekindling of our relationship with Christ through a renewal in liturgy, community, and formation, so that, becoming more committed disciples, we can bear fruits of evangelization and charity.

The main inspiration for this is what St. Paul said to St. Timothy: “I am reminded of your sincere faith… For this reason, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Tim 1:5-7)

The words of St. Augustine about his own conversion also describe well our hope for this year:

Late have I loved you!
And you were within,
but I outside, seeking there for you.
You were with me, but I was not with you.
You called, shouted, broke through my deafness;
you flared, blazed, banished my blindness;
you lavished your fragrance, I gasped, and now I long for you;
I tasted you, and I hunger and thirst;
you touched me, and I burned for your peace.
O Love, ever burning, never extinguished, O Charity, my God, set me on fire!
—St. Augustine, Confessions X.27.29

There will be different activities throughout the year aligned with this goal. Let us be open to allowing the Lord to rekindle the fire of his love in our hearts!
