Some time ago, I was listening to KPIO 1570 AM (Catholic radio). They were interviewing a man from Denver, Thomas Zordani, who had written a book: Faith Finances. His story grabbed my attention, because he was speaking of his journey from homelessness to relative affluence. In his words, he had been so deeply in debt that he was ready to try anything, even listening to the Lord. I chuckled when I heard that: don’t we all tend to do that? For instance, when I get a new cell phone, the LAST thing I want to do is read the instructions. Consequently, I am only able to call out and receive calls; all the other features remain unused. In fact, the last phone I bought is so complicated that I don’t even know how to set up my mail box! But I’m not willing to suffer through the technical details in the “instruction book.”
Have you considered giving your child or grandchild the gift of a Catholic education? New enrollments start soon, call the school office for information.
The Adult Bible Study with Fr. Hilton started last week, but it’s not too late to join in! We meet each Thursday at 6:30 pm in the convent basement. The Bible guides us on the great journey of salvation and we walk step by step with our Lord as He wins victory over sin and death. Come and grow in your knowledge of scripture.
From St. John Vianney: “Oh! If we had the faith.. If we were really persuaded of the Real Presence of Him who thus hides Himself out of love, and who is there, His hands full of graces, longing to distribute them, with what reverence we would come before Him, with what confidence we should invoke Him!” Come and join the hundreds of parishioners who adore Him in our Chapel every week! Call Eucharistic Adoration Coordinator for information.

Last weekend, Fr. Hilton spoke of the three levels of love, and summarized them as emotion, commitment and sacrifice
As he talked, I could picture all three. Take the first, emotion; two young kids, walking so close that they are in danger of stumbling, paying no attention to the light pole standing in their path. You know, the “we’re in love!” stage, better known as “hormones run amok.” This has been sold as the “real thing” by Hollywood and every magazine at the check-out counter of our supermarkets. This type of immature love burns itself out as suddenly as it ignited, unless it is balanced by restraint, honesty, and is nurtured by common values and goals.
Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord Jesus in the Temple and candles are blessed on this day during the Holy Mass. We invite you to bring your candles to the 6:30 or 8:00 am Mass and we’ll bless them for you in honor of our Lord Jesus, the Light of the Temple and the Light of the World.
Wednesday, February 3rd, is the Feast of Saint Blaise. It is an ancient tradition to bless throats on this day, using this beautiful prayer for healing: “Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, may God grant you healing from all diseases of the throat and from all other illnesses.” I invite you to receive this special blessing for healing which will be given at both the 6:30 am and 8:00 am Masses.
All grandparents and prayer pals of our school children are invited to a special school Mass in your honor on Thursday, February 4th, at 2:00 pm. This special Mass is a part of our Catholic Schools Awareness Week celebrations and we look forward to seeing you there as we pray for God’s protection upon our families.
