Calling all adults who wish to enter the Catholic Church, or all Catholics who wish to receive the sacraments, or who simply want to learn more about their holy faith. I have wonderful news for you! Our adult education series, also known as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), starts on Friday, September 18th, at 6:30 pm in the Convent basement. Fr. Hilton and Nicoletta MacKenzie will teach these classes and you’re invited. For more details, give Nicoletta MacKenzie a call at the parish office.
One of last year’s most enjoyable activities for me was our Bible Study series for adults. We used a wonderful book by Scott Hahn to guide our discussions, and our evenings together were a time of learning, encouragement and grace. Whenever we study Sacred Scripture we see clearly how God’s salvation in Jesus Christ reaches back to the very beginning of the creation of the world, through the history of the Jewish people, right to the Cross and Resurrection of our Savior and the creation of His Church – the Catholic Church. About 40 to 50 people attended each class, this generated wonderful questions and insights – and we had fun together!
This year’s Fall Semester of Adult Bible Study with Fr. Hilton begins Thursday, September 24th, at 6:30 pm in the convent basement. All are welcome – those returning from last year as well as each and every one of you who wish to join in for the first time. Come on the 24th and prepare to be blessed!
Those of us who knelt in front of the Eucharistic Lord in our adoration chapel, will surely remember the quiet, kind and faithful figure of Harold Ridenour. No doubt that his old pick-up truck with the white camper shell could find its way to the chapel on auto pilot! Harold died a month ago and was finally able to see His Lord face to face. Surely, there was instant recognition when Harold’s earthly journey came to an end, a joyful reunion of lover and Beloved.
Auction donations needed
This year our school will hold its fifth annual auction fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, November 14, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the parish overflow. Due to the remodeling of the church, we have decided to have a casual yet exciting western-themed auction this year. Our auction will be complete with a catered barbecue dinner from Famous Dave’s and dessert from The Cupcake Bakery. Be sure to keep this date open & watch for upcoming information on purchasing tickets.
At this time, our biggest task at hand it collecting donations to be sold at the auction. Donated items can be personal or solicited from a business. They should be new or antique. Some suggestions include gift cards, merchandise, and services. Please help us in this important endeavor. If you or your business is interested in making a donation, please contact Michel l e Cisneros at 303 -807-0973 or mmkec@yahoo.com. You can also help by soliciting donations from businesses where you shop regularly.
Thank you.
Last week we looked at St. John Vianney, a priest who lived in very tough times indeed, and still managed to do God’s will without worrying about anything other than the task he had been assigned: tend the Lord’s flock.
When someone challenges your Faith with statements such as “Catholics believe that only Catholics go to Heaven,” or “Jesus was really married,” your first answer should be: “Who says that?” or, “Where did you read that?” You’ll be amazed at the source of so much misinformation. It never ceases to amaze me that intelligent, well-educated people, who would not dream of calling their dentist if they have a broken bone, will take the word of a Hollywood screen-writer about the Catholic Faith as Gospel truth.
Our school is underway for the 2009-2010 academic year, last Monday was the first day of classes and we’re off to a great start. We have 227 children enrolled, from pre-school to 8th grade. Most of our classrooms are full and so we are thankful to God for sending to us so many wonderful families who desire to form their children in the Catholic Faith and the love of the good God. The school is a primary apostolate of our parish and I ask you to keep our children and teachers in your prayers in a special way.
On Friday, September 4th, beginning at 5:00 pm, we will pray the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At 5:30 pm, we will have an ad orientem Mass in Latin (the readings and collects will be in English). I invite you to join me in the church each month as we consecrate our families to the loving heart of our Lord Jesus.
Bringing Children to God
Our theme for this school year is “Bringing God to Children. Bringing Children to God.” I chose this theme to represent our unique mission as a Catholic school. While we pride ourselves on our students’ academic achievements, our structure and discipline, and the level of responsibility our children learn, spiritual formation is the thread that weaves through all of our accomplishments. Most importantly, it is the strength that creates the environment through which all our successes are possible.
