Auction Donations Needed

This year our school will hold its fifth annual auction fundraiser Saturday, November 14, from 5 to 11 p.m. in the parish overflow. Due to the remodeling of the church, we have decided to have a casual yet exciting western-themed auction this year. Our auction will be complete with a catered barbeque dinner from Famous Dave’s and dessert from The Cupcake Bakery.

Conditioning

The other day, on KPIO, 1570 am radio; Mother Angelica was talking about “conditioning.” The word caught my attention because I had been pondering what caused the difference between my generation, when everyone went to church at least on Sunday, and the current generation, when only a small minority keeps even the Sabbath holy.

2009 Mission Cooperative Appeal

Every year, our parish participates in the International Missionary Appeal. The Church in the United States has a long tradition of helping missionaries in areas of the world where the church is rapidly growing. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to support the work of evangelization, in response to our Lord’s invitation. This year, we will be asked to sponsor the diocese of Kumbakonam, in India, a vast diocese of almost 8000 square kilometers. Next weekend, Fr. Selva Raj will speak at all Masses and tell us of the great harvest in that land, the need to build 20 new parishes, and provide seminary formation for their many vocations.

Did you know that from this blossoming diocese an average of 50 young men and women go to serve other dioceses in India and other parts of the world? Did you know that the diocese is housing and educating about 2000 children from the more rural areas? Without these diocesan schools, the children would receive no education whatsoever. Did you know that the diocese of Kumbakonam provides a shelter for 100 homeless families every year? All this would be impossible to accomplish without outside help, since Catholics are the poorer segment of the population, earning as little as $2.00 a day. Holy Trinity Parish will make a large donation in your name; if you wish to add to this, send us your contribution in an envelope marked “Indian Mission.” Because you tithe, the parish is able to tithe a portion of our offertory income to the Church in India. Thank you!

New Coordinator for Altar Servers

I am pleased to announce that we have a new coordinator for our Altar Servers, Mr. Dennis McGrath. I am very grateful to him for his willingness to work with our large number of altar servers. At the same time, I thank our outgoing coordinator, Debbie Richards, who has done such a tremendous job for many years. By the way, did you know that our parish has about 120 altar servers? This is far more than most other parishes I’m aware of; just another sign of how God is blessing us. See next page for altar training class information.

Adult Education and Convert Classes

Calling all adults who wish to enter the Catholic Church, or all Catholics who wish to receive the sacraments, or who simply want to learn more about their holy faith. Our adult education series, also known as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), starts on Friday, September 18th, at 6:30 pm in the Convent basement. Fr. Hilton and Nicoletta MacKenzie will teach these classes and you’re invited. For more details, call at the parish office (303-428-3594).
