How many remember the old saying that was famous after World War I: “How are you going to keep them down on the farm when they have seen gay Paris?” I never understood why anyone would trade the simple life of the farm for the hectic life of Paris, or any city for that matter.
Let us give thanks to God as a parish family by coming to the Holy Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00. I encourage you to bring to church the bread and wine that you plan on serving for your Thanksgiving dinner; after the Mass we’ll bless them for your family’s use and send you home with a special meal blessing prayer. I also invite you to bring to Mass canned goods or other non-perishable food items. The food that you bring will be used for the Christmas baskets that Holy Trinity will prepare for needy families in our area.
With the First Sunday of Advent, our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion begin a new three-year term of service to the parish. They have just been appointed by Archbishop Chaput and I am very grateful to them for their service at the Holy Mass and in the houses of our homebound parishioners. There will be an evening of formation on Tuesday, December 1st, at 6:30 pm in the church. This meeting is mandatory for all new Ministers and for those who are interested in being appointed. It is optional for our existing Extraordinary Ministers. For questions, please call Cindy Vega at 303-465-4342.
We need genuine health-care reform that helps to save lives — not to diminish and destroy them. Please act now! Contact your U.S. Representative and Senators and urge them to fix these bills with the pro-life amendments that would effectively exclude mandated abortion coverage, keep longstanding policies against abortion funding and continue to support conscience rights.

Last week, in the Denver Catholic Register (DCR) was a short article about a new Blessed, Chiara Luce Badano. I was intrigued because this new Blessed died in 1990, only 19 short years ago, and the Church usually takes much longer to investigate the life of someone who has been proposed for sainthood. So I went to the Italian web to read more about her.
Congress is preparing to debate health care reform legislation on the House and Senate floors. Genuine health care reform should protect the life and dignity of all people from the moment of conception until natural death. The U.S. Bishops’ Conference has concluded that all committee approved bills are seriously deficient on the issues of abortion and conscience, and do not provide adequate access to health care for immigrants and the poor. The bills will have to change or the bishops have pledged to oppose them.
Our nation is at a crossroads. Policies adopted in health care reform will have an impact for good or ill for years to come. None of the bills retains longstanding current policies against abortion funding or abortion coverage mandates, and none fully protects conscience rights in health care.
