Every Thanksgiving, we remember the American tradition of thanking the Lord for all His gifts. We always thank Him for friends, family, jobs, health and other “good” things. It is only right to do so.
This year, I see a lot of discouragement and anxiety about the economy, about losing jobs and possibly having to do without what we have become accustomed to. That is understandable, but are we in danger of losing perspective? Let me explain.
Let us give thanks to God as a parish family by coming to the Holy Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00. I encourage you to bring to church the bread and wine that you plan on serving for your Thanksgiving dinner; after the Mass we’ll bless them for your family’s use and send you home with a special meal blessing prayer. I also invite you to bring to Mass canned goods or other non-perishable food items. Everything that you bring will be delivered to the local food banks that have a great need for extra food during this holiday time of the year.
With the First Sunday of Advent, our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion begin a new three year term of service to the parish. They have just been appointed by Archbishop Chaput and I am very grateful to them for their service at the Holy Mass and in the houses of our home bound parishioners. There will be an evening of formation on Tuesday, December 1st, at 6:30 pm in the church. This meeting is mandatory for all new Ministers and for those who are interested in being appointed. It is optional for our existing Extraordinary Ministers. For questions, please call Cindy Vega at 303-465-4342.

How many remember the old saying that was famous after World War I: “How are you going to keep them down on the farm when they have seen gay Paris?” I never understood why anyone would trade the simple life of the farm for the hectic life of Paris, or any city for that matter.
