2009 Mission Cooperative Appeal

Every year, our parish participates in the International Missionary Appeal. The Church in the United States has a long tradition of helping missionaries in areas of the world where the church is rapidly growing. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to support the work of evangelization, in response to our Lord’s invitation. This year, we will be asked to sponsor the diocese of Kumbakonam, in India, a vast diocese of almost 8000 square kilometers. Next weekend, Fr. Selva Raj will speak at all Masses and tell us of the great harvest in that land, the need to build 20 new parishes, and provide seminary formation for their many vocations.

Did you know that from this blossoming diocese an average of 50 young men and women go to serve other dioceses in India and other parts of the world? Did you know that the diocese is housing and educating about 2000 children from the more rural areas? Without these diocesan schools, the children would receive no education whatsoever. Did you know that the diocese of Kumbakonam provides a shelter for 100 homeless families every year? All this would be impossible to accomplish without outside help, since Catholics are the poorer segment of the population, earning as little as $2.00 a day. Holy Trinity Parish will make a large donation in your name; if you wish to add to this, send us your contribution in an envelope marked “Indian Mission.” Because you tithe, the parish is able to tithe a portion of our offertory income to the Church in India. Thank you!
