God bless our childern receiving their first Holy Communion!

This weekend, over 120 children at Holy Trinity are receiving their First Holy Communion.  This is a powerful sign that the future of the Church and of our parish is bright; God is raising up a new generation of Catholic leaders strengthened and made holy by the Eucharistic Lord Jesus!

Parents and catechists have been working hard all year to prepare them. Receiving Holy Communion is the greatest privilege that the Lord has given us.  The Eucharist gives us the strength to live as Christians in the most difficult circumstances.  It is always good to remind ourselves what a great gift it is to receive the Body of Christ, and what the duties are for those to receive Holy Communion at Mass:

  • When we receive the Consecrated Host, we receive nothing less than the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Every particle of the Host, even the tiniest fragment is Jesus. Therefore, we must be very, very careful if we receive Holy Communion on the hand, that everything is consumed and nothing, not the smallest particle, falls to the floor.
  • It is very important that we receive Jesus with a clean soul. Therefore, we should go to Confession regularly, and if we are aware of committing a mortal sin, we must go to Confession before receiving the Holy Eucharist again. For instance: if we miss Sunday Mass through our own fault, we must go to Confession before we can again receive Jesus in Holy Communion.
